so a year ago -
august 23rd 2011 i had my car packed and set off 95S towards charleston ready for what the south had in store for me. i had decided a few weeks prior to move to charleston on a whim. my best friend was moving down there for grad school, i hadn't gotten a teaching job and well i didn't know what to do. i had lost my teaching job in june 2010 and figured moving to charleston would be something new and an adventure. and well it has been a crazy year! but pretty close to the day i moved down here i'm leaving the glorious south carolina lowcountry.

because i finally have a job! a full time job (with benefits!) that i have been lacking since june 2010! and it is in the dc area! i got a permanent job with the conference organization that i've been working temporary contracts randomly since june 2009! i will be running leadership conferences for middle & high school students and am so excited! it is the same job i had a temp contract for when i was in dc for summer 2011! i am really looking forward to being in the same city as so many of my friends and so close to so many college friends and only about a 4.5 hour drive from home. and hello all of the history around dc!
so i start work next friday - august 31st. my parents are flying down to charleston this sunday - they finally get to come! and we will play tourist for a few days and then wednesday morning they are helping me drive the u-haul up to n.virginia and putting my things into storage for a few days until i have somewhere to live (anyone know anyone in the arlington/alexandria/vienna area looking for a roommate??) and then they are headed back up to jersey. so a lot going on in the next week!
but i am just so excited about everything!

and while i'm sad to leave charleston because i've fallen in love with the history and southern charm of charleston and i love being 30 minutes from the beach and the warmer climate, i know it is the right move and i can always come visit charleston and right now it is my top place to retire! (haha!)
my moving here last year was a big step - i took a chance and well i don't think i failed but it wasn't a success either. but i'm glad i decided to try something new and experience living in a new place.
so here's to the next adventure in washington dc!!
