more national park fun and veterans day

i had no plans this weekend but ended up having a great one because i hate to let a weekend just slip away without doing anything. friday i laid low after work, i was tired and i went to get my nails done. i pretty much caught up on tv and finished up the kennedy's miniseries on netflix.

and i'm on yet another weekend of national parks! actually both days i went to different areas in the national park system. ps - i really need to belong to national parks anonymous.

saturday, patricia and i went on an adventure to the thomas stone national historic site in charles co, maryland. it was one of the local-ish sites i hadn't been to yet and it was a gorgeous day so we had a great adventure there. he was a signer of the declaration of independence from maryland. since it is such a small park we chatted a lot with the park rangers. and we had a great tour of the house and i really enjoyed it. learned more about the revolutionary war period - i've been on a such a civil war kick the last few years so i don't have as much knowledge on the revolutionary war. but i have some future trips planned to yorktown/jamestown/richmond and other virginia national park sites!

patricia and i on our adventure
barns - white is a tobacco barn

and today in honor of veterans day i decided to head to arlington national cemetery. i figure while i live here i should go as a way to honor all the men and women who've served our country.

it was a gorgeous fall day to walk around arlington
paid my respects to the kennedys

one of my favorite quotes - rfk
we use this quote for one of the conferences i work
rfk - i've really become more & more interested in rfk. i'm watching
the hbo documentary ethel right now and just fascinated.
i <3 -="-" district="district" favorites="favorites" in="in" many="many" photo="photo" so="so" td="td" the="the">
tomb of the unknown solider
and after my visit to arlington - i went to watch the jets game at a bar in the district. i found a jets/ny sports bar. and it was fun to watch with others who care about your team. and well let's just say it sucks to be a jets fan.

so a quietish week this week - i need to make more dinner/happy hour plans with friends. i am going to a jersey shore benefit held by one of my friends on wednesday and then next weekend is the philly half! eeeeeek! i can't believe it is almost here!

how was your weekend?

i love that photo of DC from Arlington - what an awesome shot.

weekend has been crazy--bought our first major appliances! and today will be the first showings of our apartment to potential new renters (this sucks).

you're going to be so close to me next weekend! wish i could see you!

I love reading about all of your historical adventures! I went to the monuments today -- it was really neat to see all of the wreaths and flowers for Veterans' Day!
