Where I was presented with the:

So the rules of the award:
1 - Choose a minimum of 7 blogs you find brilliant in content or design.
2 - Show the 7 winners' names and links on your blog and leave a comment informing them that they were prized with "Honest Scrap." Well there's no prize, but they can keep the nifty icon.
3 - List at least 10 honest things about yourself.

So here are my 7 blogs
Kristen at One Safe Place

And now 10 things about me!

1. I'm slightly obsessed with checking my email. Like my gmail is open most of the day and the first thing I do when I get home is check my email.

2. I am extremely indecisive when it comes to things like picking what to do when hanging out with friends or going out to dinner. I'd rather not be the one to make plans.

3. Five years ago this weekend (2004) I accepted a bid to my sorority and while it was something I thought I would never do, it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I love everything about my sorority especially the creed and our philanthropy and I believe it is something for life. I regret not hanging out with my sisters as much in college as I wish I did, but by my senior year I was quite unhappy with the direction the chapter was headed and didn't want to be around most of my sisters.

4. One of my closest friends is my pen-pal. We've been writting letters since we were 13 and I look forward to her letters in the mail every week.

5. I am very organized from the outside. Everything is in its place on my dressers, desk, and there isn't clutter. But if you open up one of my drawers though chances are the clothes are just thrown in there and not all neat and folded.

6. I need to be extremely busy or I become completely unmotivated. I think that is one of the things why I've had such a hard time in Ireland, I'm not busy enough and spend too much time doing nothing.

7. I'm ready to move back to the US. I've loved living in Ireland but right now I'm kinda tired of living like a student and working in a temporary job. I'm ready to be a grown up.

8. I'm slightly obsessed with to-do lists. I'm always making them and I LOVE crossing things off the to-do list. And they are usually color coded.

9. At work I know most of the society people by name and what society they are from when they come in to get stuff done. I also recognize people who come in looking for accommodation all over the city. Chances are if I meet you once I'll be able to recognize you and figure out how I met you.

10. Only about 5 people I know in real life know I blog. I prefer to keep it that way. I'm much more comfortable with strangers reading about my life than people I know.

interview me

So while college roomie and I are off running around Galway, admiring the Cliffs of Moher and hopefully making out with hotties I'm hopping on the interview bandwagon... My friend Kristen over At One Safe Place interviewed me, so here are her questions and they are GOOD!
The Rules:
a. Leave a comment saying, "Interview Me".
b. I will respond by e-mailing you 5 questions. I get to pick the questions.
c. You will update your blog with the answers to the questions.
d. You will include this explanation and offer to interview someone else in the same post.
e. When others comment asking you to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions!

The Questions:
1. If you had to be stuck for hours in any airport in the world, which airport would you choose and why?
If I had to be stuck at any airport I would choose London's Heathrow. I've been to many airports all over Europe, some seriously nothing more than like a shed (Paris Beauvais, about an hour from Paris and where all the budget airlines go) and I've spent a few nights in airports (London Stansted with Em and Laura on our Berlin adventure, Dublin with my sister on the way back to Greece) but my favourite is Heathrow. It is GIGANTIC! And the thing I love about Heathrow is flights go all over the world, the US/Australia/Asia/Africa... so there are always awesome destinations at the gates and I LOVE to people watch. So I think about what the people are doing and why they are going there. Are they going home? Vacation? Studying? So many things to think about, and places to dream about going. And once you are through security, they have some decent seating by the shops that is actually comfortable, and about a million shops in case you get bored.

2. Who was the best teacher/professor you ever had, and what made them the best?
I have two. One from high school and one from college.
High School - Mrs. Tanis. I had her twice, for Biology sophomore year and then again for AP Bio senior year.
She loved biology! She loved teaching! And she got so excited about what she was doing, and it just radiated through her classroom. In my sophomore year I was the smartest kid in the class (I should have been in Honors, but that's another story) and she challenged me more by giving me more in depth work and making my lab partner someone who needed a LOT of help. And I really liked her for bio, and one of the reasons I did AP Bio was her. And AP Bio was a challenge, but she made it fun! She wanted us to do well and for the AP exam, since she knew she couldn't get to everything would do review sessions starting in January. We would meet during lunch once a week and then as it got closer to the exam twice a week and an evening session, now it was all optional, but most of us went. She did this on her own time because that's just how she is and also so we could do some really cool experiments/classes on stuff she thought we should know (but wouldn't be on the AP). She is the kind of teacher I want to be, and I hope when I have my own classroom I can be like her.
WAC- Hands down, Dr. O'Connor - my education professor. He is one of the smartest people I know. Has an amazing personal history and loves teaching. His classes were completely non-traditional. While sometimes he was slightly too theoretical about teaching methods and ways of implementing instruction, he was still amazing. I had him for 2 classes - Educational Pyschology and World Geography and then my ed block (student teaching) semester. The way he organized our student teaching was quite unique and the pure torture of the academy, but I feel prepared to enter the classroom in September. He made me excited to go to my education classes, got to know all of us personally and helped us recognize our own weaknesses and build them up, and how to play to our strengths. He was the best because he set up an amazing program, always kept us on our toes and from the first class was using methods we would use in our classrooms in our college classes. He also knew us and got us to stretch our comfort zones, experiment with new things and the funny little things about edblock, the notecards, video taping ourselves, naughty Sean in our classrooms, he let me be a t-rex in the classroom during edblock and he is just amazing.

3. If you could have tea with any person in the world, who would you choose?
Ahhh, this one is really tough, I don't know why. But to have tea with one person in the world I would choose to chat over a cuppa with Bono of U2. I know it is slightly random, but I LOVE his music and I think he is trying to promote change around the world and using his fame for good. He writes songs that have social and political leanings and that really touch people. I think he would be great to just have a little talk with.
Runners up - Michelle Obama, Harry Parker (harvard Crew Coach, who is one of the winningest coaches ever) and Hillary Clinton.

4. What is the most beautiful place on Earth that you've ever seen and what made it so beautiful?

sjfkkgfkkdkk, I can only pick one? I have a few different, but I guess my top choice would be Zion National Park in Utah. I went there in the summer of 2007 with my family on our western road trip. And I absolutely LOVED it. The canyons and cliffs are just breathtaking. You are at at base of them and just looking up, so many pretty colours, and different geographic shapes. And I'd never seen anything like it, I am dying to go back and do more hiking, go into the slot canyons and just bask in th

I wish pictures were able to show how GORGEOUS it is.

My runners up - Santorini, Greece and Dingle, Ireland.

Santorini, Greece

Dingle Peninsula, Ireland

5. If you could have a magic button next to your bed that did something awesome when you pressed it, what would it do?

Hmmmm, I don't want much just for my room and the bathroom to be super warm so it makes getting out of bed easier and I would have it right next to my alarm clock. You should see my still covered in blankets turning on my heater and then climbing back into bed for 10 minutes. I hate being cold, especially at 7.45 in the morning.

So if you would like to be interviewed, leave me a comment with your email and I'll get back to you with some fun questions.. it might be a few days, as I'm frolicking, but get excited!

endorphins make you happy...

so i love the woman who does my eyebrows. she makes me laugh everytime i come in. i hate doing my eyebrows, i always over pluck and it just looks awkward. so i was excited when i finally found someplace to do it. most salon's don't do waxing here, you have to go to a specific like spa type salon. so i found one like last march or so and i didn't go in for a while, but somehow the woman remembererd me, even though it was like 3 months. which made me laugh, but she was so nice and she does a great job. so since the summer i've been going once a month and i love going in and getting them done. so today i had someone different, which i was slightly aprehensive about, because you get used to one person, but she did a great job. and as i was leaving the one who i always had was out front, and she was like hi! how was your holiday, did you parents love ireland? did you have a good time at home. it just made me laugh, because i'm seriously only there about 10 minutes but yet she remembers. i am not looking forward to replacing her once i leave, because she is just fabulous.

i joined the gym today :)
i went in after work, to sign up and look around the place. the facilites are nicer than the ucc gym, it is slightly smaller and doesn't have a pool (but i never used it so i don't care) and the people seem nice nad friendly (unlike ucc), all the classes are free and the general atmosphere seems great. so i am looking forward to working out tomorrow. i got into a good habit over the summer, while thesising and was sad to loose my ucc membership once i was no longer a student in october. so this gym is closer (only 10 minute walk) and i am quite excited! yay for not being so lazy anymore. to quote elle woods - "exercise releases endorphins, endorphins make you happy, happy people don't kill their husbands. they just don't."

ugh, my cell phone better be sitting on my desk at work, otherwise i'm sure she is swimming with all the rain today. not good. not good.

so my friend kristen tagged me - and i haven't done this in a while... and they are so much fun to do!
i must warn you, my music taste is alll over the place!

so amy and i were talking about our life to-do lists the other day and i realized the last time i wrote mine down was summer 2006, when becca and i were setting goals for our senior year of college.

august: 1st - already august?
i can't believe it is already august. gah, where is time going? it has been a good last week in the states.

september: 2nd - gossip girl, thesis, new house, political rant
so i have started updating like 4 times this week, but never had gotten around to actutally finishing what i had to say.
(randomness about work, thesis, moving house, kara and politics)

october: 5th - random...
it is a gorgeous sunny day and i am not on a mountain :(
(silly being sick)

november: 3rd - i can see russia from my house... halloween fun.
halloween this year was quite fun...
(all about the antics from halloween)

december: 2nd - turkey, snowy hikes, december.
i've started writing this about 5 times now and hopefully i'll be able to actually write it. i open blogger and then get distracted by a gchat, someone at work, or something...

so there you have it, my first of the months aren't that exciting this year.. oh well.

i'm so dumb...

I changed my website address for my blog to -
http://andherheartitisinireland.blogspot.com/
so if you are bookmarked, please change the link, as the old one won't work anymore.

So I finished writing out my Christmas cards last night. I addressed all 40 of them (except those I'm missing) and they were all ready to post. So I was at the post office buying stamps when the postmaster notices my cards and says, they are going to need extra postage. I had bought square cards not realising it would be different. So she says it would be pretty expensive to mail as is, I would recommend getting card envelopes. So I've re-addressed all my cards and they are ready to go! Stupid me, as it was not fun re-addressing all of my cards.

Ugh, my bank is driving me crazy. I tried to use my US debit card yesterday and today and both times it showed up as declined. So I figured, oh I'm using it in the US (they know I'm in Ireland), so maybe that's why. So I call them to ask, and after answering like 12359 security questions, she informs me, that it had been compromised in August! But what I don't understand is I used the card in October in Belfast? So I wonder when it got turned off. So now I have to wait 10 days to get my card, and then call to let them know I'll be in Ireland. And of course I put the money my parents owed me into the bank, so I'd be able to use my debit card, and now I can only use cash. Grrr!

I'm off to Conn in the morning to see college roomie! YAY!! I'm excited to see her and catch up and play with the kitten and see her in 1876 and not make fun of the boot at allll! (she somehow re-broke her foot) and then on Friday I get to see my pen-pal. We've been friends for 10 years now and we first met the summer of 2004, and now I'm spending Friday night with her in the city! YAY!

Did this and it made me laugh, how perfect is this?

life soundtrack

So I posed this question on a friends's blog and I figured I should answer it myself. The question I asked was:

Make a soundtrack of you. The 15 songs you would pick if a movie was made about you and why you are choosing them.

So my 15 songs that I feel best are Erin and describe me or when I hear them take me back... (in no random order, I just hit play on my itunes.)

1. For the Longest Time - Billy Joel
Reminds me of my senior rowers and all the fun we had our senior spring from the crazyness in Florida when we first started singing this song, to the intense races, the senior 4, crewdrama, our last race, no NCAA's, making our oars and all the friendship, love and support they gave me.

2. Don't Stop Believing - Journey
Has always been one of my favourite songs, singing it at music lunches at camp, loudly while driving in the car or the bar or whenever it comes on. Also you can never stop believing, and its journey!!

3. You Gotta Be - Des' ree
I have loved this song since I first heard it when I was 10, these lyrics just scream out to me. And also they remind me of crew, I used this song as my boat's psych song because to me, they are what rowing is. And this would be one of my two songs to live by.
You gotta be bad, you gotta be bold
You gotta be wiser, you gotta be hard
You gotta be tough, you gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm
You gotta stay together
All I know, all I know, love will save the day

4. Livin on a Prayer - Bon Jovi
Another classic song I have to sing to when I hear it. Reminds me of camp, driving in the car, erging novice year, singing around the dorms with the girls, karaoke at the bar, crew, and just life. Plus it is Bon Jovi!

5. Closer to Fine - Indigo Girls
Camp. This song reminds me of camp and life. From first listening and loving IG at camp, to singing it while serenading at Hoover and Jerz, Hoops, Beaker and I singing it at HH every Friday. And also I love these lyrics.
And the best thing youve ever done for me
Is to help me take my life less seriously
Its only life after all

6. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - U2
My favourite of all U2 songs. I just love the lyrics and it just makes me happy.

7. Can't Fight the Moonlight - LeAnn Rimes
Singing it at camp during LGT training on the docks, on the fireplace with a fork, in my car, really anywhere. And Coyote Ugly is one of my favourite movies. Ohhh to be 16 again.

8. Tiny Dancer - Elton John
My favourite of all Elton John songs. I love the lyrics and just makes me happy.

9. Konstantine - Something Corporate
Reminds me of senior year of high school. It was our senior prom song and just the end of high school and loving SoCo. The berries and I saw SoCo in concert sophomore year of college and it was just a fabulous night. And the lyrics are just so powerful, and the piano playing...

10. My Wish - Rascal Flatts
I love eveything about this song. The lyrics - just wow. And can be about so many things... Also my lovers and I road trip to NC senior year to see them in concert. AMAZING!!!
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.

11. Jersey Girl - Bruce Springsteen
Cause nothing matters in this whole wide world
When you're in love with a Jersey girl

12. Seasons of Love - RENT
Absolutely love the lyrics and the passion behind this song. From singing it at camp at LNC's and post senior prom going into the city and seeing the musical with my friends. It reminds me how short a year is, and measure your life in love.

13. Like a Prayer - Madonna
This is Becca and my song. Reminds me of the last 2 years of high school, windows down, music up loud and just driving around. We still must blast Madonna every time we see each other.

14. Wide Open Spaces - Dixie Chicks
This is my song. I feel this song describes me and my life.

15. A Place in this World - Taylor Swift
I love her and her songs really speak to me, - Picture to Burn, Should've Said No, Love Story...
And this one is my favourite. Because right now, who knows where I'll be and who I'll become
I'm alone, on my own, and that's all I know
I'll be strong, I'll be wrong, oh but life goes on
I'm just a girl, trying to find a place in
This world

So what are your songs? And what other ones would you have put for me?

And woke up with a sore throat. GAH! I was just sick last month, this better just be from no sleep over the weekend. So counted a TON of money today, it is the first round of society balls and so they are bringing in tons of money in ticket sales. So I counted out 9,000 and then 14,000 euro in notes. It is so crazy to see that much money at one time. So tonight I'm just relaxing and maybe heading to the pub, we'll see how I feel.

so things are good :) one week until i'm home. sooo crazy!
the thesis is coming along, i wrote 500 words yesterday, and my goal is to write 1500 tomorrow.
the weather is still sad, it is pouring outside right now. stupid rain.
yesterday was a fabulous day! it was monsooning in the morning, seriously. just lashing rain, and wind like crazy. luckily by work time it had stopped raining. then in the afternoon i was able to see a few wac kids. the kiplin trip is in ireland for a few days hiking and reading poetry, so they spent a few hour yesterday afternoon in the city, which was great because i got to see jenna and 2 of my zta sisters! yay! it was great to catch up with jenna and hear all the crew talk. gah, i miss it. so that was fabulous.

today i'm at work, meeting kara for lunch in a few. then working this afternoon, and i think sam might be coming over for dinner, and then climbing/pub. so it should be a good day. tomorrow is my day off, so i'm thesising, meeting with andy and relaxing/packing. this weekend should be fun, dave from wac who studied in cork in the fall is going to be in town this weekend, and he is staying with me.

so yay!

not wanting to write the thesis

So I don't want to write my thesis yet today, so I'm stealing this from Amy...

1. What were you doing five years ago?
It was my last week of high school, so taking the only finals I had, English and Physics, and packing for camp! That was such a crazy week. I graduated Friday night, then it was project graduation in the Poconos, twin's grad party on Saturday after like 2 hours of sleep, 5th HP came out, then I was down at wac for registration on Monday and then camp on Tuesday for the summer. I can't believe it has been 5 years since high school. Wow!

2. What are five things on your to-do list today?
It seems my to do list is often never ending... but 5 things for today
1. write another 1000 words on my thesis
2. call home and wish Dad a happy father day
3. email a few friends
4. read and take notes on the 3 books I have on Ireland in the 1950s
5. clean around the house

3. What snacks do you enjoy?
I go through phases, but I love doritos, tortilla chips, chocolate chip cookies, pretzels... really any salty snack foods.

4. Things you would do if you were a billionaire.
I don't know if I really want to be a billionaire, I'd like enough where I don't have to worry about money. But some things I would love to do would be to travel around the world, going everywhere, have a beach house, and I'd love to have a single, so I could row when ever I wanted. I'd also donate a few boats to the crew team, I'd love to have a shell named after me.

5. Three of your bad habits.
Perfectionist - It has to be done perfect, just the way I like it.
Procrastination - Yea... I like to keep putting things off.
Picking at my cuticles... drives me crazy, but I can't stop doing it.

6. Five places you have lived.
Netcong, New Jersey
Tranquility, New Jersey
Chestertown, Maryland
Cork, Ireland
And I guess I'll throw in Hoover as I lived there for 3 summers, plus 6 as a camper.

7. Five jobs that you’ve had?
Bus at the Still/whatever name it was called by the 3 different owners
Aide at Garnett Elementary School
Substitute teacher
Camp Counselor at Hoover, Hawthorn Hollow, Harbor Hills, Salem Spotlight and Asheville

Accom office problem solver

8. How did you name your blog?
A Garth Brooke song, Ireland has the line
- And her heart it is in Ireland, deep within the Emerald Isle
and after my study abroad in Cork, I loved the line, and I felt it described me. So once I decided to come back to do my masters, and do the ireland adventures, it seemed perfect for the name :)

So things are good, last night was Sam's 21st. It was hilarious. I haven't had that much to drink in a looong time. Definitely felt like crap for most of the morning, gah. I hate getting hungover so easily anymore. I also went to see the Happening with Kara, Steph and Lorna. We went because Kara loves Mark Walhburg, I mean who doesn't, its Marky Mark. And it was just hilarious, I don't know if it was supposed to be that funny, but it was. Kinda freaky though.

Its been a good weekend, Friday I worked for the morning, had lunch with Kara, then spent the afternoon in the library where I wrote another 1000 words. YAY! I'm hoping to get another 2000 done today and also might go to the park with Kara, because it is kinda nice out, and apparently there is a big picnic? So we'll see. Oh and Big got married yesterday, I wish I could have been there for the wedding. I can't believe so many of my friends are getting married this summer, its crazy!

Not much going on this week, just work and the thesis. Hopefully it will be a productive week.

routine life

Apparently my personality type is a Engaged Idealist:

Engaged Idealists are extroverted and helpful. Others find them to be very congenial and inspiring - especially as they are always willing to see the best in the other person. Their humour, their energy and their optimism attract other people. Engaged Idealists are very good at communicating and are good at convincing and firing on others. That is why it is a matter of course that they often take over the leading role in groups. This personality type often produces very charismatic persons.

Engaged Idealists have an unusually strong ability to empathise. They are tolerant and generous towards others; they sometimes tend to idealise their friends. They always try to suit everybody and want their relationships to be harmonious and satisfactory. To achieve this, they are prepared to invest a great deal and to put their requirements last. As Engaged Idealists are very considerate, there is the danger of them sacrificing and overexerting themselves for others. In their job, they therefore have to be very careful not to develop a burnout syndrome.

Engaged Idealists are reliable, well organised and love structuring complicated situations. They have difficulty accepting criticism; they quickly feel hurt and misunderstood. Their perfectionism also influences their love life - they look for the perfect relationship for life. Once they have made their decision, they are faithful, well-balanced and loving partners. However, should they get involved with the wrong person, it can happen that they allow themselves to be exploited for a long time before they end the relationship.

I think that describes me pretty well. I love little personality quizzes.

So my life has been good :) I've actually been productive on my thesis this week :) And I went climbing to the pub on Wednesday and worked. Work has actually been great this week. Denise and Sharon are now both full time for the summer and Dave has been on holiday this week, and it has been super quiet. So the three of us just sit and talk and drink tea. Also with the girls now working, it isn't just me in the office for 4 days, and until I go home I'm back to my 25 hours a week, so I can get my thesis done.

I moved into my bigger room downstairs today :) Had to majorly clean it before I could move anything down here, but it is nice and I'm
definitely spoiled with a double bed for the summer. Now the little room upstairs is where I will be writing my thesis because during the summer the library closes at 4.45, so pretty much most of my time won't be in the library. Oh well. Kara moved into her house, so now she is like 1 minute away. YAY! Also, Brenda, the other girl in my house is super nice. So I am looking forward to a good summer living here. The only annoying thing right now is a TON of stuff was left in the house, like food, video games and such and I don't know if the guys are coming to get it or what? I just want to clean the kitchen and sitting room properly, but don't know what to do with it all. GAH!

So I still don't know how I feel about the democratic primary news from this week. While I am a Hillary supporter, I think the primary mess had been going on for too long, every week at work Dave and I would discuss it. So even though I think she is the stronger Democratic candidate, the party was completely split and she did the right thing by stopping. I don't know if her as the VP would be a good idea. I like Obama, I just don't know about him as President. I don't think he knows enough and is ready, but he did do a great job of getting people out to vote. I just don't know. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next few weeks.
