the mountaineering club went to wicklow for the weekend and it was good fun!
it was weird because only 16 people were going, so it was a nice small group of fun people.
so the bus ride up was funny, some singing, mostly talking and the theme of the weekend was good idea/bad idea. colin found the signs from the vertical limit night, that he forgot, so all weekend long we we were using them. the bus did take a long time though, almost 6 hours to get up there.
so friday night was fun, pretty low key, except karen did get pretty drunk, which was funny. mostly just spent talking and trying not to freeze so squeezing like 6 of us on the couch together, covered with duvets.
saturday was just fabulous :) woke up to a nice and sunny day! YAY!
the beginning of the hike was a road walk into the glen, and i decided to learn how to navigate, so i took a map and was figuring it out, and i was doing quite well, i plan to learn more the next few hikes. it helped i already knew how to use a map and such, and i know how to use a compass, so its just putting the things together. so after the road walk, which was pretty we climbed up along a waterfall, yay for scrambling :) and then along some peat bogs, it was pretty slow going through the peat bogs, as they are pretty boring. then after lunch we started to climb up again to Lugnaquilla, the highest mountain in Leinster. so we walked past these grass icicles which were really cool, and then through some clouds, and it was just absolutely gorgeous! i took a million pictures, then right before the top, we were on top of the clouds, yay! for a cloud inversion, and it was 360 degrees, the best cloud inversion i have ever seen. and just gorgeous sunny weather, so perfect! the hike down was fun, it was such a great hike, great weekend and great people :)
saturday night, was pretty low key, just more hanging out drinking, and lots of singing :) it was great to just sit and chat with everyone and relax. sunday we left around lunchtime because we had a 6 hour ride back to cork. ahhh, going to donegal will take forever in march! it is crazy how bad the roads are here and how it take possibly forever to get anywhere, even though it is such a small country.
the last two days i have been trying to get work done, but i am so unproductive, it isn't even funny. i wrote my bibliography last night for my paper and the proposal too, even though that is complete crap and i'm re-writing it at work today. sometimes i hate classes here for the fact that i go for months without anything due, so when i really need to write something i have a hard time, i don't mind doing the readings and discussions, but having to write i just don't have the focus, which i reallllly need to get soon, when i start to write my thesis. ahh..
lots and lots to do today, i'm at work until 1 where i need to print off things and figure out how to get to swansea from cardiff, then i'm heading down to the public library to get books for the flights, class from 3-5, dinner with kara and then reading alllll night long for class tomorrow, as well as a few other small things in there too.
i'm excited to be going to swansea to see kel, tomorrow :) it will be nice to see her and also to do some traveling, plus this weekend is birthday ball, so i'm super sad not to be going back to wac to see everyone, so it is nice i have something to do this weekend.
this made me laugh yesterday, saw it on cnn, its george washington's rules of civility, which as freshman in college we were all given and they are all over campus, saw this and it made me think of wac and the fun :)
