zurich

hi everyone! happy 2011!

i'm in zuirch, switzerland and while i wanted to write a new year's post, well i just ran out of time. so let's just say i had fun in almost philly with everyone. it was great to see jeanne, travis & kaity and a few other people i hadn't seen in a while from college. of what i remember i had a fun night. saturday we all lazed about j&t's watching movies and relaxing and brenda and i were invited to continue the fun with j&t. so i got kinda behind on the eurotrip prep as i didn't leave philly until sunday. oops. but it was fun, and i got everything done. and so far the only thing i realized i forgot was a pen. i don't know how i forgot one... oops!

so first, i've decided to have a competition. i know many of your know my love for my camera.(i'm currently doing a photo365, and i've been known to take hundreds of photos in just a few days) and so while i'm in europe i've decided to do a how many photos can erin take while in europe contest. so you'll have until Monday January 10th to make a guess - leave a comment with your guess and when i get home i'll look at the final number and the person closest gets a little european surprise!

so i'm in europe! yay! it feels nice to be back.

flight over kinda sucked. newark airport was kinda crazy, had to wait over an hour to get my ticket/check baggage, but security was quite fast at about 30 minutes. the flight was pretty crowded, and i was sitting next to an older swiss woman who was visiting her daughter in nyc, she was nice. but about halfway through the flight i got a headache that turned into a pretty bad migrane. i took meds and kept drinking water and tried to sleep but by the time we landed i was dead. it didn't help that it was like 2:30am to my body but 8.30am in zurich. had a minor setback in the airport/train area when i went to buy a new sim card for my irish phone (as that one had expired as it hadn't been used in almost 2 years) and apparently my irish phone was locked for a new card. which i don't understand as i used other cards when traveling before and had friends use their cards in my phone when theirs died or whatever... anyway. so i felt a little safer i bought a cheap swiss phone, that way i could still text the states and give my mom updates. so that on top of feeling like death, not the best way to start the trip, but once i found my hostel, which is located in cute old zurich and took a nap i felt much better. i slept much longer than i wanted, but i needed it, as i just felt like crap and still didn't feel 100% when i got up.

after my little rest, i went and explored. and zurich is so cute! i can't wait to explore more in the daylight, when i went out it was getting to be dark, but i took a few nice photos. and i have a list of churches and things i want to do in zurich before i head out to prague tomorrow night! and hopefully the train will be better than my flight!

and i was adventurous with food! everything here is either pork, veal or some type of sausage. well i wanted something swiss for dinner (and believe me i passed a million italian/thai/pubs) and i went to a bierhalle place where i sat next to two nice germans and had a yummy beer and a pork cutlet with spatzle. the pork was ok, but the spatzle was delish. i'm excited for the yummy bread and cheese and chocolate i'm going to do for lunch tomorrow!
