so i thought i was getting better blogging but then i go a week again - oops! so i'm going to skip everything from this week for another post and talk about today's adventure day. so amy and i love to go on fun day trip adventures where sometimes we have an idea about what we want to do - go to
newport and play in the cottages, spend a few days camping in
acadia national park,
angel oak,
cyprus gardens and so today we decided to head down to edisto island - about an hour south of charleston and just had a day full of fun!

pieces of charleston wood - now re-purposed at the
farmers market. reallly want one of the hooks! |
we started out downtown - today was opening day of the
farmers market in charleston for the season. charleston has one of the best farmers market in the county and i just love going on saturdays. i enjoyed wondering around seeing my favorite vendors and seeing what new stalls were added. i also enjoyed some wonderful bluegrass music while sitting in the square and just taking in the gorgeous saturday morning while amy did some work. then we set off on our adventure to edisto.

so we just continued to drive around edisto and see what else we could find. and we passed an absolutely amazing little church. so we stopped to walk around and the church was founded in 1685 and the building is from the 1830s and as we were discussing our love for this church we greeted a man walking and started talking to him and he invited us inside to see it. and it was breathtaking - i've seen the insides of many churches and cathedrals but this was so simple inside - gorgeous and amazing work but very basic and lots of natural light but not ornate and very decorated. i just loved it. we also explored the cemetery and grounds of the presbyterian church.

so after the church we drove and saw a sign for steamboat landing. it was one of the brown signs which down here is some sort of attraction - and since it was adventure day we decided to adventure. well it was just a boat launch/pier on the river - but still gorgeous! and then our next stop was the beach! can't have an adventure day without the beach - we enjoyed a little stop at edisto island beach!

so after the beach we decided to head to beaufort county. with class amy stopped at the old sheldon church ruins and wanted to show them to me. so we drove a bit out of our way but it was totally worth it! the church dates back to the 1740s-1750s but was destroyed by the british in the revolutionary war rebuilt in the 1820s and then destroyed again in the 1860s in the civil war and has been left in ruins since then. and we spent some time walking around, taking pictures and i was just so impressed with the ruins, i wonder what it looked life before it was destroyed because from the ruins it is just incredible, with amazing brickwork.

so after the ruins we headed back to downtown charleston for burger babies for dinner. i purchased a voucher a while ago for it and it was expiring next week. they do all sorts of burgers just mini sized - hence the name burger babies. it was pretty delish! and then we stopped to get cupcakes from cupcake for a snack at home while we watched the way. a film about the camino de santiago - a pilgrimage in spain that amy has wanted to do for years.

Sounds like a fun day! Those burgers look delish!
No way! I spent a week at Edisto after my freshman year! We did service projects like painting houses and stuff as part of the scholarship program I was in, and I LOVED it there! It's so pretty and quiet. And I think we went to that exact same farmer's market in Charleston during that trip, too!
