so it was a busy and somewhat interesting week for me. i ended up working a lot at retail job - i was originally only scheduled for 9 hours but ended up working 25 (which i'm not going to complain about) and randomly my aunt & uncle were going to be in charleston so i met up with them for some charleston fun! plus two nights this week of migraines where i was in bed by 8pm. so lots going on!
the retail job is going well. i'm liking it more than i thought i would. i did two mornings of shipment which i actually kinda liked and then put together some of the new displays and moved around a lot of merchandise. while shipment can be tedious as you open about 150 boxes and place all the merch on racks in 2 hours it is kinda fun to see the new merch and to laugh about those really ugly leopard print boots. i'm on register all 3 shifts i have this week so we'll see how that goes!
so last week my mom let me know that she thought her sister was going to be in charleston, so i emailed my aunt & uncle and we made plans to see each other while they were in town. so it was fun to see them and do a few touristy things. we went to ft. sumter (and you know i can't say no to civil war history) on friday afternoon and then on saturday i joined them at magnolia plantation for a few hours frolicking in the gardens. there was such gorgeous weather this weekend - low 70s and sunny and it felt like fall, which i'm ok with as it is october. i'd been to both ft. sumter and magnolia before (l
ast october when i visited charleston) but it was fun to go again. i can't wait to go to magnolia again in the spring because it must be gorgeous! i finally saw an alligator at magnolia! i actually saw 4 of them and it was exciting!

morris island lighthouse |
so this afternoon amy and i went on an adventure to enjoy this gorgeous weather. we decided to head to folly beach and to see the morris island lighthouse. weather was great for a beach stroll and i honestly think the water was warmer than the air and it was a bit windy. so i had looked up the lighthouse and it is in the middle of the harbor. morris island has slowly eroded away and so only part of the island is still there and it is uninhabited and only reachable by boat. the lighthouse was originally about 800 feet inland, but is now about 600 feet to sea. the history lover in me would love to get out to morris as that is the site of fort wagner - known for the battle of the mass 54th which was made famous from the movie glory. so putting that on the list of charleston things to do! but we had a fun afternoon walking along the beach and then taking silly photos at the lighthouse!

so had a lot of fun over the weekend going to some of my favorite places in charleston! i was supposed to sub today but was woken up with a call at 5am letting me know i wasn't needed. so i'm kinda mad as i want to work. oh well. but i'm working at retail a few days and also volunteering for the house & garden tours this week twice and job searching like crazy.

Glad you like working in retail. You may think otherwise when the holiday shopping kicks into high gear!! lol
that lighthouse is AWESOME. and i love the movie glory. and i think those weird things on the cypress trees are called 'knees'. which i think is awesome.
I loooove that lighthouse! Pond covered in duckweed, though? Eww. Can you imagine accidentally falling into that thing?
Gorgeous photos! And yes, those are cypress knees! You'll see them painted at craft shows all over the South ;)
Gorgeous photos! I love the beach and lighthouse, looks like such a fun place to visit.
