bored

so i am bored out of my mind.

along the waterfront looking to
ravenel bridge
i have officially been in charleston for 2 weeks now! yay! things are going well in the apartment. we have couches and are just missing a dining room table. my belongings should be here in the next week so i will have my bed (which i miss) and i'll be able to have the rest of my things and hey with all this free time i have i'll be able to get my college scrapbook finished (knowing it off my 30 by 30).

i've sat out by the pool, read 9 books and have applied for at least 25 admin jobs, registered with a temp agency, i'm now looking at retail and i just feel i'm not qualified for anything. i have my masters degree in history, a teaching certificate (in the process of getting a SC one), worked in education for the last 2.5 years in some sort, and worked in an office in grad school for 2 years. uuuugh - i am just frustrated and hate that i'm not even getting calls. and well i don't do well with sitting around and not doing much, but as i'm unemployment and just moved i have no money to spend.

ok, enough with my ranting about my job searching.

other than not having a job i'm enjoying charleston. it is nice to have my own place. i love the south. sweet tea is everywhere. i can sit out by the pool all afternoon. there is awesome history here. i'm close to the beach. i've gotten in contact with the local alunmae chapter and i can't wait for our first event. i've also contacted the local rowing club and want to get back with coxing. i'm joining an adult kickball league. and i'm happy about the choice i made to move here.

the flabongo
i've done a little bit of exploring and went to sit along the water on waterfront park in mt. p the other day and enjoyed that afternoon, amy & i went to look at some old houses for her classes and we went to the beach on sunday. also saturday night i went with her to a little historic pres get together where i drank out of a flamingo hence called the flabingo.

You should look into volunteering until you find a job. Maybe a local hospital, animal shelter, free clinic, school, museum, etc...a lot of places are looking for volunteers and it may give you a boost on your resume. At the very least, it will give you something to do! :)

I agree with Emily - as someone who hires people (and sometimes fires - gulp!) I hate seeing blanks on resumes... check out the local YMCA - they always are looking for volunteers and I can tell you from my own experience that once we hire someone, we very rarely let them go :)

Good luck!!

i agree with both emilys! also, i've found that every single job i've landed has been from having some sort of connection... maybe if you get a volunteering gig you might meet someone with the right kind of connection! :)

Looking for a job sucks!! Good luck with your search!! You might want to try volunteering. It'll get you out of the house and will look good when interviewing, so they see you are proactive and not just sitting around. Plus you could make conections possibly.

I agree too with volunteering. Or even interning or just applying for jobs you never have considered. Like my dog daycare job. I personally half-enjoyed being unemployed bc it's fun to explore but I understand wanting a job! I would just suggest finding ANY job to hold you over until you find a real one.

oh twin. i hope that you find something soon! but i'm glad you're exploring! that sounds exciting. i haven't yet got to explore the area i'm living in, and i've been here for nearly 2 years!

love the flabongo, flabingo! :)
