i say ummm, a lot...

So I've been putting off creating a video resume for some of the teaching jobs I am applying for and I decided to work on it today. I am looking at independent schools and well as public ones and I am working with an independent school placement agency and they suggest a video resume to help you find more schools. Sounds simple right? 1-2 minutes of talking about yourself, teaching and why they should hire you. THINK AGAIN. I wrote down some things I wanted to say and have been filming it the last hour. I keep messing up, and forgetting things and while watching some of the clips I realize I am saying ummm, every fourth word. SERIOUSLY. So I've shot it a few times, so now I'm attempting to edit it and make it one cohesive video. But honestly, I think I've gone insane. I'm thinking I'm talking all funny, I don't really know what they are looking for, I'm trying to make it me, but still professional. UUUUUGH! Driving me insane! But if it gets me a job, then hey, I'll do it.

So it has been a pretty good day, worked, had lunch with Kara and then met a fellow American in Cork for the best hot chocolate and we walked around just talking for a while. It stinks I've just met her and I'm leaving so soon, but I'm looking forward to meeting up with her again. And then the video resume from hell.

Last night with Brenda was fun, Shopaholic was cute. Totaaallllly different from the book, but still fun. I've really learned with my favourite books turned movies that they will be different and not to compare to the book so much to the movie. It was slightly PS. I Love You esque in the book to movie format, where location and such is totally different. Really it is a basic idea based on the novel with the main themes, but not much else. But I still enjoyed Shopaholic and it was your cute chick flick :)

So back to this video resume, which might kill me. I think I have a decent clip, now just making it slightly better. But seriously, it was drilled into my head not to say um, like, and yea by my education professor and now that I've been in Ireland, seriously they are all back in my vocabulary! grrrrr.

So I think I've finished it, I'm going to stop for now and send it to a few friends before I email it to my placement counselor. Or I might just throw my camera out the window, and well I kinda need it for Italy.

Oooh, I hate watching myself on video - I always cringe at how my voice sounds. LOL. Hope you're able to figure out your clip okay!

I'm totally with you on the movies being different from books. I was a huge fan of the Shopaholic series, but was annoyed when I found out they made her from NYC. The best part about Becky was her British-isms. I'm sure it's a cute movie, but I probably won't see it, as I'm weird about seeing movies that mess with the storyline. LOL.

Aww this is so cute. I'm bad on camera too, but just practice a few times off camera so you are ready and confident when the camera is on.

That's a great idea to make a video resume! Sounds really difficult though. I'm sure I would have said the word "like" about 8 million times. That's my "verbal crutch" or whatever they call it. Good luck with it. I'm sure it's great!

I agree about Shopaholic...I liked it as something separate from the book. I was a bit disappointed though because the books are hysterical—I think they would have made a great movie as they are. The Shopaholic books are some of my very favorites. And just like with P.S. I Love You, I was really bummed that it didn't take place where it did in the book. Though with P.S. I Love You, I was really unhappy about it. Obviously, I was all excited to see Ireland in all its green glory. At least they went there for a bit though...

I hate watching myself on camera or hearing myself speak at all. Don't pay too much attention and don't be too nit-picky about the way you talk. I'm just it's just fine, you're just looking for little things.

I'm glad the movie was cute and you enjoyed it too!

I hate watching myself on video. I hope that you were finally able to get a decent take.

I also liked Shopaholic, and like you, I've gotten used to my favorite books totally not being the same in the movie. I was okay with it though.
