its funny, because this is what i wrote at the end of last year, and it is funny how almost all of it came true :)
i'm really looking forward to 2007, i'm really a senior and getting excited about my future.
i'm not going to live in the past, i'm looking forward and i'm going to be happy this year.
i want to have one crazy awesome last semester, take advantage of everything and just live my life.
make dean's list again, finish my thesis by april, make honours on my thesis, graduate with honours,
crew this is my year, my 8 is going to be on fire, we will do well, we will have fun, we will be intense and we are going to NCAA
have fun with friends and just enjoy the times with them because they are quickly coming to an end
and do everything i can to be back in ireland next september.
2007 is about graduating and grad school.
hope everyone has a great night and lets hope for a better 2007 than 2006
2007 was about graduating and grad school in ireland, and i think that is why i had such an amazing year :)
january - started out the year subbing and being bored at home, dying instead of taking the praxis, amy came to jersey to visit before starting out final semester of college and we ate our way around jersey and our nyc adventure, drinking my way through my first week of the semester because crew started the 2nd week, the theme parties continued and my fabulous classes of 2 leadership and 2 history classes
february - started off crazy! with crew starting on the 1st and recruitment on the 2nd, so i was up to my elbows all that week with running recruitment, meeting with ba like 8 times a day, the zeta eta theta superbowl football game, then chelsea's party, my final recruitment as a collegiate and our preference party (one of my favourite things about ZTA), where my line in the senior poem was bubbling koster who hiked ireland's trails and can recite history facts at the drop of a green hat, our senior bid night where the seniors wore togas and we welcomed 14 fabulous new girls, the anything goes but clothes for aubs's 22nd where garrett c turned into project runway, and then the insane treasure hunt with joy, mailing my application out to UCC!, birthday ball with the amazing wine and cheese preparty, just surviving the last few days of the month when i had 4 papers, a chapter of my thesis and my conference proposal all in the same week
march - survived (and did extremely well on the praxis), natalie, my great grand little got a little so i got a great, great grand little, i call her g2!, got inducted into phi alpha theta, the history honours society, spent an amazing week in florida with my crewies for my final spring break training trip where the juniors surprised us at dinner with innappropriate gifts, getting thrown in the water, relaxing in the sun, coxswains gone wild, team bonding and lots of rowing! and best of all FINDING OUT I WAS GOING BACK TO CORK on the final day in florida, the end of spring break party at walburns and then all the seniors at o'connors, the amazing snow patrol concert! and ending the month as a scholar athlete, my first regatta of the season and presenting my paper at the phat regional conference, my boats won both races and my paper went well too! a crazy day, but i loved it.
april - like every april it is devoted to crew, lots and lots of rowing! emailing with my idol, mary whipple (women's national team cox) for my project, my senior 4 in crew, the everfabulous easter crew weekend with bbq at chelsea's then the most hilarious night at the bird, accepting the teaching position in north carolina at the asheville school for the summer!, winning the knecht cup and the most crazy day of racing, the weekend rowing in mass...you gotta be and for the longest time, HANDING IN MY THESIS!! (which got honours), losing to marywash in what would be my final race for washington college which pretty much killed our ncaa dream but being named to the DIII all midatlantic team and winning the women's team points race, oreo eating contest on the way home and then war on the shore and after dogbowls at the bird and a fab crew party
may - may day, my last college classes, the senior athletic awards dinner, the crew banquet and making up all the paper plates, i love my crewie seniors, my oar at the boathouse, the senior row (where we broke the boat), finding out we didn't make ncaa :(, the trip up to ny to cheer on the boys at ecac's with a sidetrip to ithaca and cornell, hooking up with adam the last night of college, GRADUATION!!! with honours and being the dumbest of the smart kids, back to jerz where i subbed for a week before starting my summer adventure
june - being a professional coxswain for the navy masters camp, spening a weekend in chestertown and then in harrisonburg with becca! i entered a new state - tennessee! starting my job teaching at the asheville school for the summer, falling in love with asheville, firewater at the pub, my first group of students, who i really didn't like, but getting to hike in the great smokey national park,
july - still loving asheville and the class i was teaching, it was perfect for me. the late night chats with sarah, the second group of students so much better than the first, an amazing time backpacking and in cherokee, the final harry potter, saying goodbye to north carolina, my drive home, my 22nd birthday, and starting my photoblog
august - i went out to dinner lots and saw twin, a ton of camp people, a fab day in nyc with klast all before the vacation out west. the last two weeks of august were amazing, going all over the west coast, san diego, disneyland, los angles/hollywood, the hoover dam, vegas, zion national park, bryce canyon national park, both rims of the grand canyon, flagstaff and phoenix. it was a crazy 15 days, but i loved it. seeing the pacific ocean, falling in love with utah, it was a great way to spend some time with my parents,
september - my last hurrah in the us, seeing my loves jeanne and kaity up in boston and the irish heritage photo scavenger hunt, the bars with all my close friends meeting up in boston, my few days with amy in mystic, it was so hard to say goodbye to all of them, especially twin and amy, saying goodbye to my family and packing! IRELAND!!! finally being back after way too long, resuming the wednesday nights at the pub with everyone, all the funny stories from the previous 2 years, finding somewhere to live, loving every second being back in cork, meeting kara at the postgrad orientation
october - finally getting my id card, the first hike with the uccmc and starting grad school classes!, starting work at the accom office, kara and i started our shenanigans, lots of climbing, my irish residence card, deciding not to row here, lots of great hiking, it felt so great to be back with the mountaineering club! megan coming over to visit me and our adventures in galway and the cliffs of moher!
november - kathryn came over to visit and we had a great time, the double fisting joke, surviving a very rough dingle weekend with only one freak out, but had a great hike and climb and remembering why i loved the club so much, lots of climbing and hiking, kara and i still being crazy, my housemates 21st in killarney, spending thanksgiving in london with megan, climbing up ireland's highest mountain,
december - (seriously this year flew) started it off going to the IBL, then doing an extremely windy hike in the galtees, being in a pissy mood for a week because no heat or hot water, finishing my semester paper and exam, the crazy hike in the gap, saying goodbye to kara for a month, spending an amazing christmas in edinburgh with laura and our hilarious adventures around the city and to st. andrews, spending 5 fabulous days with the mountaineering club in letterfrack to celebrate the new year, i had a great time with 3 hikes, the epic night nav of diamond hill, the sheefries and a great way to end the year, on new years eve hiking croagh patrick then an amazing night at the pub dancing and singing the night away....
2007 was great, and 2008 should be a fabulous year as well.
i'm in ireland :)
lots of work from now until october, i want a rough draft of my thesis by july, finishing my masters in october and graduation in december.
and hopefully finding a way to stay in cork for 2009.
i want to travel a lot, hike and climb and love being outside, get a 1H for my masters and most of all be happy :)
