it has been a busy week - i thought after monday and tuesday my week would be easy. i was wrong.
i went to practice tuesday afternoon with amy and it was fabulous. it was her team's first day out on the water, so being out with her novice rowers was going to be an experience. putting 9 people in a boat who've never rowed before is always crazy. i remember my first water practice and it was so exhilarating, fun, chaotic, nerve wracking and a million things are being thrown at you. as a coxswain being the day before going out you are in charge of this $20,000 boat, kinda made me nervous. it is 53 feet long and you really can't see the bow when 8 rowers are rowing.
so practice on tuesday was fun, it was great to be out in the launch seeing what these kids could do. the girl coxing had coxed in the fall, so she had an idea of what to do, which really helped. because a first time coxswain has about a million things flying at them to remember, to do, learning how to steer, calling things, docking... so the coxswain and i had a walkie talkie, so during practice i could give her suggestions and advice. so that was fun, it was also great to see the kids take their first strokes and that i still remember what to do in certain situations - and what drills to do to teach the stroke. so that was great :) and on tuesday the rascal flatts cd came out! so after practice amy and i headed out to pick it up! and it is fabulous! i love them and their new cd is amazing. i think my favorite songs off this cd might be - here comes goodbye and things that matter. so i recommend the unstoppable to everyone!
wednesday was a great day because the sun was out and i could wear heels again. i was quite excited to wear heels and a skirt - when kids are here i wear jeans or khackis with a long sleeve shirt or sweater, and since i'm outside most of the day a fleece and rain jacket with my less intense hiking boots. so since i was in the office i was excited to dress normally. and amanda and i were sent out on an adventure for most of the day, to go all over and distribute posters advertising our summer programs. so that was fun, frolicking all over town. and then later that night i decided to head to the quiz night at one of the irish pubs in town. so quiz night was fun, i knew most of the people there, and our team did pretty good. we came in third, and it was pretty hard, most rounds we only got 5 right - but we did get 9 in the current events, so that was cool. thursday i was only at work for a half day - yay for a extra long weekend, i'm taking advantage of them while i can before the last week in april when we got crazy for 6 weeks. and i was highly productive in the afternoon, getting all the things i needed to get done. i'd been slacking calling about health insurance, my student loans, license plates for my car, things about teaching... and so i'm glad i've got all of that squared away. and then i continued to apply for teaching jobs until practice. practice yesterday was great, the kids are really starting to get the hang of it, and it was pretty funny, one of the guys who is pretty tall was having the hardest time. amy and i just couldn't figure out why he was struggling so much, and he had done pretty well on tuesday. so after we came in, i was looking down at the boat and i thought maybe his feet were in the wrong place? so i look and yup! his footstretchers were alll the way up - like where someone my height should have them not someone about 5'9. so hopefully that solves that problem, and another one of the boys who i think can be a great rower was having a problem with the rowing motion. it has be awkward at first, and so after practice we put him on the erg to watch closer and i saw it, so i put him through a drill to get the idea step by step of the stroke and he seemed to get it. so hopefully that helps him too. and i did the same with the coxswain again, so that was fun. i am loving going out with them, but once things get crazy i won't be able to make practices, and hopefully next week if the weather is nice, i'll go in the morning with her to her master's (adult) classes and maybe get to go out in a single. and then we all went over to our bosses's house for pizza and for amy to get a haircut. so it was a busy day!
and today has been my day off! yay! i've been slightly productice applying for jobs, and i finally got my haircut! it has been omglong! like the longest i think my hair has been since my junior year of high school. so that was fun and she did a great job, i want to keep it longer, but i want to add some shape so it isn't so blah. and in a few hours i'm headed up to providence to meet up with jeanne and kaity - who i haven't seen since july! so i am psyched for that! but i'm kinda laughing at what we are doing. we are seeing the hannah montana movie, and on opening night.
yes.
so, it is going to be funny. but taylor swift and rascal flatts are also in it, so that should help. and i'm getting to see some of my best friends! so i'd do anything for that :)
